Writing, Making, Observing
The work observes human emotion and the small and large conflicts that arise within people and in everyday life. Through writing, images, video, and sometimes music, it explores the contradictions and tensions that emerge when personal feelings meet other people and social expectations.
This includes an interest in how emotions are expressed, concealed, or adjusted: the desires behind familiar choices, the gaps between words and expressions, and the norms taken for granted. These observations become questions, expressed through a mix of seriousness, self-deprecation, and absurd humor.
Earlier music explored an inward, self-deprecating world. A collaborative project with street artists offered a way to observe how raw experience and talent develop in an atmosphere of freedom. These experiences across different media and collaborations continue to inform the work.
Current projects span fiction, essays, and video. A second volume of the science fiction novel Neozen; Unfinished is in progress, continuing its exploration of a society where the capacity to feel emotion determines social class. The essay series Behind Taste examines what lies beneath everyday tastes and choices. The visual project feelflat uses AI to turn thoughts and ideas about emotion into images and videos, creating an ongoing record.
The form changes from one medium to another, but the focus remains on the moments when human feelings come into contact and conflict with the surrounding world.
사람의 감정을 관찰하고, 내면과 일상에서 일어나는 크고 작은 충돌에 주목한다. 개인의 마음이 타인과 사회의 기준에 맞닿을 때 생기는 모순과 긴장을 글과 이미지, 영상, 때로는 음악으로 풀어낸다.
작업은 감정이 드러나는 방식뿐 아니라 감춰지거나 다듬어지는 방식에도 관심을 둔다. 익숙한 선택 뒤에 놓인 욕망, 말과 표정 사이의 어긋남, 자연스럽게 받아들여지는 규범을 관찰하며 그 안에서 질문을 찾는다. 진지함과 자조, 부조리한 유머는 이러한 질문을 표현하는 방식이다.
음악에서는 내면의 자조적인 세계를 탐구했고, 스트릿 아티스트들과의 팀 프로젝트에서는 날것의 경험과 재능이 자유 안에서 형성되는 과정을 살폈다. 서로 다른 매체와 협업의 경험은 사람의 마음을 관찰하는 작업의 바탕으로 이어진다.
현재는 소설과 에세이, 영상 작업을 병행하고 있다. 감정을 느끼는 능력이 사회적 계급을 결정하는 SF 소설 『네오젠; 미완성국가』의 후속권을 집필하며, 『취향의 이면』에서는 일상적인 취향과 선택을 통해 사람 마음의 이면을 탐구한다. 시각 프로젝트 feelflat에서는 감정에 관한 생각과 아이디어를 AI를 활용한 이미지와 영상으로 구현하고 기록한다.
매체마다 표현의 방식은 달라지지만, 관심은 사람의 마음이 주변의 세계와 부딪히며 만들어내는 장면들에 머문다.
